Les marchés financiers restent en mode "risk off". Les informations hebdomadaires sur les flux investisseurs révèlent des sorties de capitaux dans toutes les classes d'actifs et cela depuis le début de l'année, seuls les marchés actions enregistrent quelques flux positifs1.
Pourtant, il existe un fort sentiment négatif à l'égard des actions, comme en témoigne l'American Association of Individual Investors, qui depuis 1989 a enregistré sa plus faible perspective de hausse à la question "quelle sera l'orientation du marché boursier au cours des six prochains mois ?"2 Le moteur dans ce contexte de marché reste la hausse des rendements des emprunts d'État et l'effet domino de la guerre en Ukraine qui a gonflé les prix des matières premières et exacerbé les pressions inflationnistes déjà existantes. Les banques centrales s'efforcent de trouver un équilibre entre la maîtrise de l'inflation et le bascule en récession des économies. Ce contexte de risk-off est une indication que les marchés financiers expriment un vote de défiance envers la capacité des banques centrales à atteindre cet objectif.
Selon Bloomberg, le FMI vient d’abaisser ses prévisions de croissance mondiale pour 2022 de 4,4 % à 3,6 %. Pour les Etats-Unis, cette révision fait passer les prévisions de croissance de 4,0 % à 3,7 %. Cette prévision est supérieure à la prévision consensuelle de Bloomberg de 3,2 % pour l'économie américaine. La guerre devrait avoir un effet limité sur l'économie américaine, mais le resserrement des conditions financières par la politique monétaire, la force du dollar ainsi que la réduction du soutien fiscal devraient peser sur la croissance. Nous pensons que la robustesse du marché du travail et la forte épargne refoulée liée à la COVID-19 devraient permettre aux États-Unis d'éviter la récession. Avec la hausse des taux d'intérêt cette semaine, le marché a peut-être déjà intégré une politique plus restrictive. Le rendement des taux forward 1 an est de 3,47 %, le rendement réel à 10 ans a touché zéro cette semaine, et le taux hypothécaire moyen à 30 ans est maintenant de 5,29 %, le niveau le plus élevé depuis 2009. Pour la zone Euro, la croissance a été ramenée de 3,9 % à 2,8 %. Ce chiffre est conforme au consensus de Bloomberg. Cette forte révision peut être attribuée à la guerre, à la forte hausse des coûts énergétiques et au resserrement des politiques. Une fois de plus, le marché a déclaré qu'il prenait en compte un ajustement plus agressif de la politique de la BCE. La moyenne du "1 an forward" de l'indice Euro Overnight (EONIA) est à 1,45 %, un plus haut sur la décennie, avec deux hausses de 25 points de base prévues cette année. Compte tenu de l'écart de production plus important de l'Europe et de sa plus grande exposition à la guerre, cela peut être considéré comme une politique restrictive. En ce qui concerne la Chine, la croissance a été révisée à la baisse, passant de 4,8 % à 4,4 %, en dessous du consensus Bloomberg de 5 % et de l'objectif de croissance de 5,5 % fixé par le gouvernement.3 Le principal catalyseur provient de la politique zéro COVID-19 de la Chine et de la faiblesse du secteur immobilier. L'assouplissement de la politique a déjà commencé ; au cours du week-end, le RRR (taux de réserves obligatoires) a encore été réduit de 25 points de base, ce qui porte le RRR moyen à 8,1 %.4 Cette réduction permettra de libérer 540 milliards de RMB de liquidités dans le système. Cet assouplissement supplémentaire de la politique a entraîné une dépréciation de 2 % du RMB au cours de la semaine. Nous avons également assisté à un assouplissement de la réglementation dans le secteur immobilier au cours du mois dernier afin de soutenir la demande et d'atténuer les difficultés de financement.
Les banques centrales et les prévisionnistes restent optimistes pour les marchés développés, prévoyant que la croissance restera supérieure à la tendance à long terme cette année. Cependant ils se préparent également à gérer de la meilleure manière les pressions sur les prix si l'inflation ne se normalise pas en 2023. Les marchés des capitaux commencent maintenant à prendre en compte les attentes plus élevées concernant les futures politiques monétaires restrictives, et redoutent de plus en plus que les gouvernements et les banques centrales aient plus de mal à orchestrer un atterrissage en douceur de l'économie en cas de faible inflation.
